Meet the Editor
Hi, blog! My name is Emelia Delaporte. You might know me as an occasional Silhouette blogger, a prose editor, the blog editor, an open mic reader, or a poetry featured creative from our last couple of print magazines. I wanted to reintroduce myself as Silhouette’s editor-in-chief for the 2023-2024 year.
My passions are relatively random – birding, FSU’s marching band (not sorry!), duck sauce on dino nuggets, the Wardensville 7-Eleven, stopping for turtles, Waffle House… you get the gist. I love poetry. I love long walks in the woods, if there’s rocks included. I like cattle pastures, and hopping fences. I have questionable taste in music and thrifted skirts. I’m a bit of a workaholic, which is part of why I’m here.
This magazine has been one of the highlights of my first two years at Virginia Tech. Finding a home amongst a community of creatives, whether tucked in a Milk Parlor corner or cozy in our Squires office, has made a world of difference in exploring my art and the art of others. I’ve spent countless hours in the office between classes, after meetings, on Sunday mornings between birding trips and newspaper production, and most of my spare campus moments. We are so much more than gorgeous printed pages, tactful Instagram posts, intimate spoken-word events, and those fliers that we can never seem to find a good place to hang.
I can’t wait to see where this year takes us. I’m excited to read your stories and poetry and to see your photography and art. Our campus creatives are the lifeblood of Blacksburg – this I truly believe. It’s been a pleasure working with you so far; it only gets better from here!
